Here is an update on Team 1-800-DRY-ME-OUT’s second race with driver Steve White on August 4, 2012:
Steve White had an up and down day for his racing debut. The car cut out in practice and Steve wasn’t able to turn any hot laps. The team fixed the issue and got Steve ready for qualifying. A record 20 mini stocks showed up this week and the action was intense.

Steve started on the pole for qualifying and things got heated up pretty quickly. Last week’s race winner was outside of Steve and this week’s eventual race winner dove to the inside in turn 3 making it 3 wide with Steve in the middle. Steve held his line as the 3 collided slightly denting the right front fender of the King of Wrap, Dry Me-Out, Richard’s Hot Sauce #13.
Steve soldiered on and was making up ground when the alternator belt snapped and the car lost power and Steve had to pull off. The team rushed to the parts store and returned in time to install the new belt and get a little charge on the battery. Special thanks to pit crew member Alex Olivera for the ride to the parts store and for diving under the car to change the belt.
With the car ready once again, Steve had to start last for the 20 car feature. As the field took the green, the throttle cable failed and Steve was unable to get going. He had to pull off and watch from the infield.
The team will get the car fixed up for the next race and since it is a team effort, Rob Faiella (scheduled to drive on the 11th) will sit it out and let Steve get that elusive first race in.
Its all part of racing, the highs and the lows…especially in a stock class where you take a car off the street and convert it to a race car, the chances of something going wrong are always there since you don’t know the history/maintenance of the car.
The team never gives up and we will go them again next week on August 11th! Come on out and support Steve at Showtime Speedway. Gates at 5 PM, Race at 7. Details at: http://showtimespeedway.us/
